how can we enjoy life in its most pristine beauty, when from birth to death, harsh realities dash our dreams?

it's tomorrow, and as of now, i'm still looking for jobs to apply. hopefully, the tens of resumes i sent will receive favourable replies soon. and i only need one company, just one, to employ me. haiz. the thought of being unemployed is depressing, as though the road will stretch on forever without an end in sight. but then again, i'm thinking if i should just apply to, and accept, any position. or should i stick to chemical engineering? or should i do part time? my heart and mind is in chaos.

went cycling on thurs, followed by tetsu at tanglin mall for 'authentic jap food', quoted from sharon. hahaha
we attempted to cycle from macdonald's at ecp to changi village. but too bad, we still ended up 3km from our destination. there was so few people on a thursday afternoon, so we enjoyed ourselves admiring the scenery and feeling the wind in our hair.
our lunch at ECP food centre + his weekly usual: peppermint oreo
deco of the TETSU restaurant, 3rd floor of tanglin mall
we enjoyed the udon served at tetsu, the cold one was nicer than the hot! sharon decided to be 'adventurous' and ordered the tea pot soup. but it was very mini for such an expensive thing! the soup must be poured into the teacup to drink. haha tempura was not nice, the sushi and sashimi were ok. total bill for dinner was $100+. maybe the next time we come back (if ever), we'll just order the udon and maybe some katsu. hahaha
happy couples
played badminton yesterday, and as a result, i'm kind of sore all over today. caught public enemies at iluma, which we should actually have postponed to next week. but he said i threatened him that i'm going to watch with 2b, so he had to hurry ahaha. the movie was nice cause of johnny depp. there were too many characters that you sort of lose track. especially when you are half-knackered from exercise. i expected more scenes of the bank robberies, but i counted only 2, 3? hahah
convocation's next week. and then i'll be lost, like a piece of driftwood. boohoo.

played mahjong today again at lala's house, and won $7.40, which was still not enough to cover my losses last sat. hahaha but i'm beginning to be a bit sian of it, so maybe should refrain for a while.
finished a book called the 19th wife. it's a book of fiction that explores polygamy. the male characters use religion as an excuse for their marrying many wives. but ultimately, he suffers, the wives suffer, and the children too. the husband has to share his time and love as equally as possible to ensure domestic bliss, but it sort of eats away at his soul too. the wives have to struggle with jealousy and try their best to keep the attention focused on them. the children suffer most, because they become lost in their own family and fade into the background, most only recognizable by their own mothers. thank god, it is prohibited by law now, it wrecks havoc on family and society structure.
currently reading a book titled mapping human history. it takes a look at how humans have evolved. turns out from fossil records and genetic evidence, we are actually more alike than we would have thought. all of us share a group of African ancestors. it was also shown from analysing the Y chromosome that all men can be traced back to a man as father, and from mitochondria analysis, all women can be traced back to a woman as mother, though the two paths are independent. i find the book fascinating, though i'm reading it slowly due to its wordiness.

cycling is becoming a weekly thing. but perhaps should aim to gain more distance and stamina. a small thing to do to cheer ourselves up amidst the irritating endless job search that seems to yield no job. boohoo
skinny pizza at suntec is really very skinny. it taste more like biscuit than pizza, cause of the super thin crust. miraculously, two 12" pizzas satiated us. but i don't think we'll be going back.
mahjong tomorrow! yay! by the way, harry potter was less exciting than it used to be. for those who didn't read the book, the progress of the movie might be too slow to bear. he was yawning repeatedly throughout the show, and especially hated the abrupt ending. i don't really like the half-blood prince too, cause there were some boring parts, and barely any exciting ones.

i was surprised at the number of people at the impromptu lunch session. but yes, i love this kind of spontaneity and carefree feeling.
and so i need you to learn to love my family and friends too. 爱屋及乌. cause they are also part of me, as are you.
i want a job!!!! more interviews also can! at least indicates that i'm not just sending resumes into a black hole.
***meanwhile, who can play mj on sat? hahaha

Caught "p.s. i love you" on sunday night, and i was crying already at the half hour mark. the show was very touching, about a man who leaves behind letters to help his wife move on with her life after his own death. In every letter, he writes something that shows his love for life, sense of fun, and just how much he loves her. The show made me want to be the wife, to be lucky enough to have such a wonderful person to love and hold. Even through all the loud and horrible quarrels, ups and downs of life, there'll always be the assurance of having a safe harbour in your beautiful love.

went KTV yesterday at katong. despite asking in advance, there were only 6 people present. oh well, it's the doctor's fault, among some of the given reasons.

had a lousy zi char at sin hoi sai eating house that left us feeling very unsatisfied. but we compensated for it by going to ice cream chef near St. Patrick's School. the mocha flavour was strong and nice =)

last 'event' of the night: supper at 201. sambal fried rice to fulfill lt's craving. we just sat there and talked, and realised that relationships are complicated. very. hahaha
像是心里有一块石头,觉得你的改变让我沉痛。即便不愿意,但下定决心听你详述一次。唯一让你我了解彼此立场的最后机会,否则将永远失去,无法挽回。

nothing's simple anymore around the house. war's been declared. conflict of ideology makes it unsafe to be involved in any conversation. avoiding is not an option, but to silently listen is near impossible. everyone becomes a target to convert, to try and understand that the world is governed by some 9-part rule. you will understand only if you are deemed intelligent enough. you will listen and want to know more if you have not been brainwashed by western culture. enduring for the past week, hoping the zeal will die down, but no, it was sparked by nail polish. seriously, i cant even scream to show my frustration.
like some kind of fanatic, or mad genius, its already reached a state where the future looks bleak. 我和你的眼中,看见了不同的天空。 need a job now more than ever, for money, to make myself useful, for a chance to get out of the house.
and somehow, i've seemed to have injured my elbow and knee. both cant straighten or bend properly without feeling weird.

had a fattening saturday, whereby i had dimsum lunch with dar and his family at marriot hotel. read reviews that said the 万豪轩 had good food. but it turned out to be disappointing. think we won't ever go again.
the place looks quite classy and chinese. but the walls have all these calligraphy characters that are quite illegible.
the steamed items. 萝卜糕, 烧卖, 虾饺, and 叉烧包.
other items ordered. 海鲜焖伊面, assortment of fried stuff (腐皮卷,春卷,虾饺), 叉烧酥, and 汤饺.
for dessert, they ordered 杏仁茶 and 杨枝金露. but it seems like the almond paste was made from powder, and thus it is watery and doesnt taste good.
happy faces cause we're trying out a new place, and eagerly awaiting the food.. too bad the food wasnt nice enough to make us want to come back a second time. and it was rather quite expensive. all these items ordered ala-carte cost $168, bleah.
for dinner, he wanted to have western food, and so chose barracks @ dempsey. but it was fully packed, and it was a long wait for our table of 5. hence we changed to jumbo seafood. had deep fried frog legs with ginger, black pepper crabs, mee goreng, clams. i must say that the food really lived up to the reputation of the restaurant. it was more satisfying and of better quality compared to the lunch. i was too embarrassed to take photos cause everyone was starving, and i had to wear a bib to protect my top form my messy eating.
i really should get started on an exercise program. how ar?

monday was darling's birthday. headed out to a little restaurant and bar he read about in TODAY.
Place name: El Toro. Type: Spanish food
since the indoor sitting on the second floor was all to us, i took photos of the deco. quite a nice place, with a large screen projected with images of beautiful scenery. there's even a stage for a live band, but too bad it wasnt playing on monday night.
their food and drinks menu, left and right respectively.
our food! the complimentary nachos were crispy and goes well with the dip. best of all, they are refillable!
he wanted for our appetizer the grilled calamari that received a good review. but we were unfortunately one table too late, another table ordered the last plate! so we changed to having the prawns. the sauce was quite sour, but we still finished all on the plated, including the tomatoes and capsicums.
main course: the seafood paella. don't be fooled by its appearance-it really does manage to feed two! the rice was flavourful and soft, and there was a lot of seafood, including prawns, mussels, fish and scallops.
dessert: churros! two thumbs up for this one! nicely fried dough sticks with cinnamon, dipped into a yummy chocolate dip. at first i thought how hard could it be to fry some dough, but then the churros did not taste oily at all, nor was it too soggy or too dry. i like!!
honeymoon will be in barcelona, when we have the money. meanwhile, let's take a photo with a spanish backdrop.
the total bill came up to about $70, which was quite steep. but well, its his birthday (and he paid :p lol). service staff was friendly but their constant walking around can be a bit distracting.
and after that we caught the movie 'i love you, man' using his GV birthday 1-for-1 voucher. the movie nicely captured the essence of the friendship between two guys, and how that bond is so different from that between a couple. funny movie too!
my happy boy. hope you had a happy birthday =)
i'm looking forward to dimsum buffet at marriot hotel on saturday! yay!
